E’ già passata una settimana dal termine della XVIII Assemblea annuale di MPI (Meeting Professionals International), ma c’è voluto davvero un po’ prima che mi riprendessi dalla stanchezza per scriverne qui.
E’ stata la mia prima esperienza in un’assemblea MPI, ed è stata grandiosa: vorrei ringraziare il comitato locale e quello nazionale che hanno deciso di tenere l’assemblea in Sicilia, e hanno progettato e coordinato l’intero evento.
Sono stati giorni fantastici (soprattutto dopo avere concluso la nostra attività “Catania – la Città Invisibile”, e con essa tutti i miei obblighi “professionali”), e ho avuto il piacere di conoscere e scambiare opinioni con molta gente interessante e talentuosi professionisti.
E, come sempre, ho imparato molto.
Ho apprezzato gli speaker dell’assemblea vera e propria, il cibo era ottimo, i vini locali davvero buoni, le escursioni divertenti e ben pianificate, e perfino il tempo è stato bellissimo (come ci si aspettava, d’altra parte, in Sicilia!).
C’è qualcosa che non ho gradito?
Uhmmm…
Beh, se mi è molto piaciuta l’idea dell’inno di MPI Italia (scritta in rima da Pier Andrea Tosetto), le sue frequenti ripetizioni durante l’assemblea (5 volte in poche ore, per quanto ricordi) la hanno resa stancante e hanno diminuito (non rafforzato) l’effetto voluto.
Inoltre, credo che la scelta di un duo da piano-bar come intrattenimento principale durante la cena di gala sia stata piuttosto inappropriata, soprattutto se comparata con gli incredibili musicisti che hanno suonato a Palazzo Biscari (il giorno precedente) o durante l’assemblea (lo stesso giorno)… il piano-bar contrastava fortemente con la location elegante (il parco di un castello storico, a bordo piscina), nonché con la sfilata di moda tenuta nello stesso luogo e con il gran finale emozionale con delle lanterne volanti. La stessa sensazione è stata condivisa da diversi dei presenti, per quanto mi è stato riferito.
Ma queste sono solo cose da niente. La verità è che è stato un evento fantastico, e sono già in febbrile attesa per l’assemblea MPI del prossimo anno!

It’s about a week ago that the XVIII MPI (Meeting Professionals International) Italian assembly ended, but I needed a while to recover before writing something about it.
It was my first experience in an MPI Assembly, and it was a great experience: I have to personally thank the Local committee and the National committee who decided to have the assembly in Sicily, and planned and coordinated the event.
I had a great time (especially after our “Catania – the Invisible City” activity was concluded, and, with it, all of my “professional” duties) and I had the pleasure to know and exchange views with a lot of interesting people and talented professionals.
And, as always, I learned a lot.
I appreciated all the assembly speakers, the food was just right, the local wines were lovely, the excursions were funny and well planned, and even the weather was gorgeous (as to be expected, in Sicily!).
There is something I didn’t liked?
Uhmmm…
Well, if I liked the “MPI Italy song” (written in rhyme by Pier Andrea Tosetto), its frequent repetitions during the assembly (5 times in a few hours, as far as I can remember) made it boring and lessened (didn’t strengthened) the whole effect.
Also, I think the choice of a piano-bar duo as the main entertainment during the gala-dinner was rather inappropriate, especially if you compare it with the great musicians that performed at Palazzo Biscari (the day before), or during the assembly (the same day)… The piano-bar duo strongly clashed with the elegant setting (in the park of an historical castle, by the poolside), and also with the fashion show and the flying lanterns finale. The same feeling was experienced by many of the people involved, as they later told me.
But this are just minor flaws. The truth is it was a fantastic event, and I’m already waiting for next year MPI assembly!
